Prof. Marcelle Machluf lights a torch at Israel’s 70th Independence Day Ceremony

Marcelle Machluf, born in 1963, is an Israeli scientist. She is a professor of biotechnology engineering and food engineering who researches, among other things, measures to treat cancer and tissue engineering. Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering at the Technion, Prof. Machluf was chosen to light a torch on the 70th Independence Day of the State of Israel. Prof. Machluf is a graduate of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and the Biotechnology Program at Ben-Gurion University, where she completed her doctoral thesis in the laboratory of Prof. Smadar Cohen, one of the leaders in the field of biomaterials in Israel. Prof. Machluf’s research focuses on the development of advanced systems for the transport of drugs, mainly for the treatment of cancer. Her research also deals with innovative developments in the fields of tissue engineering, biomaterials, and genetic therapy. Her research has resulted in 7 patents and Machluf’s work has been published in over 90 articles and 4 books, which have been cited in scientific literature over 5,000 times. Marcelle guides dozens of male and female students and is advancing the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering on a path of growth and excellence by leading international ventures and promoting relationships with industry.
