Prof. Ido Kaminer wins ERC Consolidator Grant

Prof. Ido Kaminer completed all his academic degrees at the Technion: a double bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and physics, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in the Faculty of Physics under the guidance of Research Professor Moti Segev. In 2018, after a postdoc at MIT, he joined the Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering and established the AdQuanta Laboratory there. The laboratory runs experiments at the forefront of research using a unique microscope that combines electrons and lasers, built thanks to the generous support of Robert and Ruth Magid. In November 2023 Prof. Kaminer won an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council. The grant supports selected researchers with pioneering and ground-breaking research ideas. According to the prize committee, Kaminer’s research resulted in a paradigm shift in the understanding of free electron radiation. In 2020, Prof. Kaminer was included in TheMarker’s list of promising young people. In 2022, he won the Schmidt Science Polymath Award, in the amount of 2.5 million dollars, given by the Schmidt Futures Foundation to “extraordinary people who improve the world”. He also won the Lomb Medal, the Krill Prize, the Blavatnik Award and awards from the Israel Physical Society and the American Physical Society (APS).
