Dr. Amit Goffer receives an Honorary Fellowship from the president

Amit Goffer is an Israeli inventor and serial entrepreneur, considered one of the pioneers of the artificial exoskeleton industry. In 2015, he received an Honorary Fellow degree from the president of the Technion, Prof. Peretz Lavie, in recognition of the developments he invented for Israel and humanity, chief among them the ReWalk technology. Goffer was born in Moshav Kidron. He studied at the Ort High School in Rehovot and earned his bachelor’s degree at the Technion as part of the IDF academic reserve (Atuda). He later received a master’s degree from Tel Aviv University and a doctorate from Drexel University in electrical and computer engineering. In 1998, Gopher had an ATV accident that left him paralyzed in all four limbs. He says that the doctors saying “you will never walk again” pushed him to think of creative solutions and promoted him to work on improving the lives of people in his condition. While confined to a wheelchair, he created the ReWalk system which was the first mechanical exoskeleton developed in the United States. The system is used by people with disabilities including veterans of the United States Army and the IDF, athletes, and others. In 2014, Gopher founded the company UpNRide, which manufactures a standing wheelchair whose goal is to allow people with disabilities to conduct themselves in the world “at eye level.”
