SUMMARY:Meet the inventor of wifi in a conversation with the President of the Technion - SYDNEY
DESCRIPTION:Join JNF Australia and Technion Australia for a conversation between 2 of the world’s greatest influencers in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship – Prof. Uri Sivan\, President of the Technion and Prof. David Skellern\, inventor of wifi. \nThe two distinguished leaders will share their visions on what Israel and Australia need to do to ensure they maintain and expand their leadership in the entrepreneurial  ecosystem. They will also expand on the impact emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence\, virtual reality\, robotics\, quantum computing\, cyber technology and automation present to the world’s defence\, medicine\, health\, environment\, education\, communications and other technology industries. \nThis will be Prof. Sivan’s first Australian public address as President\, he will also speak about Technion’s exceptional entrepreneurial ecosystem and leadership in this space as well as its continued vision of nurturing Israel’s future business leaders and entrepreneurs and developing applications that can impact both Israel and the world at large. \nProf. Sivan is a former IDF combat fighter commenced the position in October 2019 and is considered among Israel’s highest authority in physics\, particularly in nanotechnology and quantum related disciplines. \nAmong many of his claims to fame\, are the design and build of a unique\, ultra-high-resolution atomic force microscope\, as well as the creation of the nano-bible – the world’s smallest bible (smaller than a pinhead) which the late President Shimon Peres presented to Pope Benedict XVI during a visit to Israel. \nBeing the President of Israel’s most prestigious university positions him among the nations most distinguished public figures. Click here to view a special welcome message from him which was recently released + click here for his full bio. \nProf. Skellern worked in radioastronomy for 10 years and taught electronics at Sydney and Macquarie Universities for 16 years before coming to prominence in the IT industry through Radiata\, which he co-founded in 1997. Built on joint research conducted by Macquarie University and the CSIRO\, the company demonstrated the world’s first chip-set implementation of the High-Speed WLAN standard. This innovation has been described as a revolution in world communications\, introducing high speed wireless communications \nRadiata was subsequently sold to US giant Cisco Systems in 2001 for $565 million. Dr Skellern joined the Board of National ICT Australia in 2003 and became its Chief Executive Officer in 2005 and is currently Chairman of CMCRC. Dr Skellern was appointed to the Order of Australia in 2010. \nThe reception will also be an opportunity for Prof. Sivan to formally acknowledge and honour a major philanthropic donation recently received by a Sydney donor to strengthen the Technion’s commitment to leadership in the quantum research discipline. \nAttendance is at no cost but your contribution to support the Technion Sustainability initiative and JNF Green Week would be anticipated. \nRegister today – this event is guaranteed to sell out and based on a first in first serve basis. \nTo find out more\, contact ori.danieli@austechnion.com / +61 405 328 577

SUMMARY:Nanomaterials for medical devices: size matters
DESCRIPTION:Technion Australia is delighted to invite you to a conversation with A/Prof. Olga Shimoni who will share how nanotechnology impacts our lives and healthcare in particular. \nNanotechnology has applications across chemistry\, biology\, physics\, materials science\, and engineering\, covering anything from wrinkle-resistant fabrics to better baseball bats and batteries with improved energy storage capacity. However\, it is in the healthcare field that nanotechnology promises to provide the most significant results. \nOne of the most promising potential contributions of nanotechnology is in the space of screening and diagnostic tools for early detection of diseases. Early and accurate detection of diseases exhibits several advantages\, such as disease at an early stage can be curable or efficiently treatable\, reduction of financial burden to individuals and the public health system as well as real-time health monitoring. \nBeginning her career and academic journey at the Technion’s school of material engineering\, Olga\, for the past 15 years has dedicated her life to understanding biology\, physics\, material and chemical sciences and how it impacts the world we live in. \nHer passion and specific area of expertise includes studying the implications nanotech has on medical devices and applications with particular emphasis on its capacity of identifying diseases at an early stage. \nPlease join us at what promises to be a fascinating presentation.

SUMMARY:The role of academia in Israel's defence
DESCRIPTION:BY INVITATION ONLY – \nProf. Golany\nOn behalf of Ruth and Bob Magid\, Technion Australia is delighted to invite you and your partner as our guests to a private reception with Prof. Boaz Golany\, Vice President at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology + special welcome by Israel’s Ambassador to Australia\, Mr. Mark Sofer. \nSince its establishment\, the State of Israel has faced ongoing security threats\, including those relating to its very existence. \nMaintaining a qualitative and technological advantage is key to its survival and prosperity\, coupled with the need to persuade its neighbours that the path of peace is always preferable to the way of war. \nThis advantage is largely reliant on human capital – and especially scientific capabilities. \nFor the past century the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology has continuously invested and nurtured Israel’s brightest by providing them with the necessary skill set to become leading engineers and scientists\, the defence sector is no exception. Many of Israel’s greatest breakthroughs in defence are credited to Technion’s researchers and alumni. This includes Iron Dome and Arrow 3 which were mostly developed by Technion graduates. \nA former tank commander\, Prof. Golany is regarded as a leading Israeli authority on security and counter-terrorism. Playing a key role in Israel’s top university gives him a unique perspective on how Israel prepares the next generation of engineers to meet current and future security threats. \nWe look forward to welcoming you on the day. \nDr. Ruth Ratner\, President and\nOri Danieli\, Executive Director\nTechnion Australia.
